Once a straight-A student? Former marching band member and drum major? The studied guy in Jazz band? Hip, tattooed rocker Phil Ritchie is a bundle of surprising contradictions wrapped in a coolly confident demeanor.
Born in 1978 in the small town of Shadyside, Maryland on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay, Phil was constantly on the move as a child. The boy relocated a staggering ten times by the time he was 9 years old. Moving that often must have been a challenge for young Phil, but a challenge he managed to meet head on and with great deal of accomplishment.
Finally landing in Ocean City, Maryland, Phil became the aforementioned impeccable student, trumpet player, drum major and yes, jazz band member (which is actually pretty damn cool if you ask us) - a super smart kid brimming with musical talent. It was in his school′s jazz band that he found his life in rock and roll after he was asked to audition for the band Lennex. He, of course, nailed the audition and subsequently fronted the group with such notable success that they found themselves touring the country. Racking up impressive stage time with national acts like Cake, Fuel, Bon Jovi and The Goo Goo Dolls, and playing the famous WHFStival twice, Phil gained valuable experience, expanding and honing his already stellar musical chops.
An enigmatic, powerful performer, Phil finds musical inspiration in the likes of (and among many others) Tom Petty, Tool, Soundgarden, and Jeff Buckley. And with that inspiration, he inspires us as well.
